The World Gravity Sports Federation was formed, early in 2021, with an eye to build a World Cup series. But the pandemic put everything on hold for another year.

WGSF has a charter to promote downhill street sports. With the main goal to create a professional World Cup series.

WGSF set off to rewrite the rule book on downhill sports. Most of the rules are similar to what everyone has come to expect over the last few decades. The rewrite was primarily cleaning up the rules. Opening a few things up to innovation, such as unlimited wheels for skateboarding. And defining exactly what standup is, and isn’t. Better defining the concept of what a lead rider is, entering a corner and who was a write to the race line. Starting and stopping procedures were normalized.

In anticipation of filming events, semi finals and final riders will generally be required to wear POV cameras. Most likely, starting in 2023, all race heats will be required to wear POV cameras, mostly to help with any protests.

Primary racing formats will be the time honored, qualifying and single elimination. But qualifying events may use other formats, such as points racing, or even a form of race to qualify.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but WGSF hopes to make a difference in downhill street sports.
